Asphalt and Concrete Paving in Richmond

Rich's Paving takes on asphalt paving in Richmond, CA, and getting there is easy for us. Our yard sits in Petaluma, and Richmond is about 33 miles down Highway 101 and straight across the Richmond–San Rafael Bridge. That makes it the closest East Bay city to us, closer than parts of Sonoma County we already pave. Richard Stanley is a third generation paving contractor, and his son works beside him on the crew. The family has paved since 1988, and we bring our own paver, roller, and dump trucks over the bridge.

Richmond grew fast during the war years, when the Kaiser shipyards pulled the population from about 23,000 to near 115,000 in two years. The Rosie the Riveter national park on the waterfront tells that story today. A lot of the housing stock still dates to the decades right after, and the driveways show their age. Point Richmond holds the original town center, Marina Bay fills the old shipyard ground, and the Hilltop District carries the newer subdivisions. Each of those sits on different ground, and the ground decides how we build.

Parking lots and commercial paving along the Richmond corridors

Richmond is a working city with a working port, and commercial pavement takes a beating here. Truck traffic runs to the Port of Richmond and the industrial blocks around it every day. Storefront lots line Macdonald Avenue and 23rd Street, and the Hilltop area carries the big retail fields. We handle commercial paving in Richmond: new lots, overlays, patching, striping, and ADA stalls, phased so your business keeps running.

Ground matters more in Richmond than most owners expect. The city has 32 miles of shoreline, and much of the land near the water is fill sitting over soft bay mud. Pavement on that ground moves and settles, and the city's own general plan flags it. We look at what is under a failed lot before we quote the fix, because asphalt repair only holds if the base under it does.

Driveways from Point Richmond to the Hilltop

Home driveways here range from tight Point Richmond lanes to the wide concrete aprons of the newer Hilltop and Country Club Vista tracts. Much of Richmond's housing went up in the 1950s and 1960s, and plenty of driveways are original. Old asphalt that has gone gray and cracked can often be overlaid if the base is sound. We handle driveway paving for Richmond homes, tear-outs included when the base is gone.

On the hill streets of East Richmond Heights and around Mira Vista, drainage decides how long pavement lasts. Richmond gets over 20 inches of rain a year, nearly all of it in winter. We shape grading and drainage so water sheds off the surface instead of soaking the base. Where a driveway needs a harder edge, we pour concrete driveways and aprons too. Questions From Richmond Property Owners

A few of the questions we hear most around Richmond. Don't see yours? Give us a call.

Call (707) 217-0835

Do you really come out to Richmond from Petaluma?
Yes. Richmond is about 33 miles from our yard, straight across the Richmond–San Rafael Bridge. That is a shorter run than some Sonoma County towns we pave. Bridge or not, the equipment and the crew are the same ones we bring to every job.
What does asphalt paving cost in Richmond?
Square footage sets the starting point, then the condition of the base under the old surface. Ground near the shoreline can be fill over bay mud, which needs more base work than the solid ground up on the hills. Tear-out and haul-off add to the number too. We measure the site and put the price in writing before any work starts.
Can you keep our lot open while you pave it?
Usually yes. We phase commercial work in sections, so part of the lot stays open while we pave the rest. Entrances, walkways, and ADA access stay usable through the job. Most lots lose a section for a day or two at a time, not the whole property at once.
